Sidestream Capnography Device CA10S

Portable ETCO2 and Respiratory Monitoring Device

The CA10S Sidestream Capnography Device is a compact respiratory monitoring system designed for continuous measurement of End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide (ETCO₂), airway respiration rate (AWRR), oxygen saturation (SpO₂), and pulse rate.
Using sidestream capnography technology, the CA10S draws a small sample of exhaled respiratory gas through a sampling line for CO₂ analysis. This enables healthcare professionals to continuously assess ventilation and respiratory status.
Its portable configuration makes the CA10S suitable for professional clinical environments including emergency departments, intensive care units, operating rooms, and respiratory departments.

What Is a Sidestream Capnography Device?

A sidestream capnography device measures carbon dioxide in a patient’s exhaled breath by drawing a small gas sample through a sampling tube into the monitor.
The device analyses the sample and provides an ETCO₂ measurement, allowing healthcare professionals to monitor ventilation continuously.
Unlike pulse oximetry, which measures oxygen saturation, capnography provides information related directly to ventilation through measurement of exhaled carbon dioxide.
The CA10S combines both technologies by providing ETCO₂ and SpO₂ monitoring together with respiration rate and pulse rate measurement.

Key Features of the CA10S

  • Sidestream capnography technology
  • Continuous ETCO₂ measurement
  • Airway respiration rate monitoring
  • SpO₂ measurement
  • Pulse rate measurement
  • Real-time respiratory monitoring
  • Audible and visual alarms
  • Adjustable alarm limits
  • Low-battery alarm
  • Filter-line checking prompt
  • User zero calibration
  • Atmospheric pressure compensation
  • Temperature compensation
  • Rechargeable lithium battery
  • Up to 8 hours of battery operation
  • Compact portable construction
These functions are consistent with the manufacturer’s specifications for the CA10S.

ETCO2 Monitoring

One of the primary functions of this sidestream capnography device is continuous End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide monitoring.
The CA10S provides an ETCO₂ measurement range of:
0–150 mmHg
with a resolution of:
1 mmHg
ETCO₂ represents the carbon dioxide concentration measured toward the end of exhalation and provides healthcare professionals with useful information about a patient’s ventilation.
Published CA10S specifications give the measurement range as 0–150 mmHg.

Respiration Rate Monitoring

In addition to ETCO₂, the CA10S measures airway respiration rate.
Measurement Range: 2–120 rpm
Resolution: 1 rpm
Accuracy: ±1 rpm
This enables the device to provide both numerical respiratory rate information and capnography data from the same sidestream sampling system.

SpO2 and Pulse Rate Monitoring

The CA10S extends beyond conventional standalone capnography by incorporating pulse oximetry functions.

SpO₂

Measurement Range: 30–100%
Resolution: 1%

Pulse Rate

Measurement Range: 25–250 bpm
Resolution: 1 bpm
Combining ETCO₂, respiratory rate, SpO₂, and pulse rate in one portable device can reduce the need for separate monitoring equipment in appropriate clinical situations.

Audible and Visual Alarms

The CA10S incorporates an alarm system for monitored parameters.
Alarm limits can be configured for:
  • ETCO₂
  • Respiration rate
  • SpO₂
  • Pulse rate
The unit also provides audible and visual alarm functionality, alarm silencing, low-battery indication, and a “Checking Filterline” prompt.

Rechargeable and Portable

Portability is an important advantage of the CA10S.
The device uses a rechargeable lithium battery capable of providing up to approximately 8 hours of operation, according to the manufacturer.
Its compact dimensions are approximately:
159 × 72 × 31 mm
and its weight is approximately:
270 g.
This compact design makes the CA10S useful where respiratory monitoring equipment needs to move with the patient or clinical team.

  • Emergency departments
  • Intensive Care Units (ICU)
  • Operating rooms
  • Respiratory departments
  • Patient transport
  • Other appropriate clinical monitoring environments
The manufacturer specifically identifies emergency departments, ICUs, operating rooms, and respiratory departments among its intended clinical environments.

Benefits of the CA10S Sidestream Capnography Device

The CA10S provides several useful functions in one compact system:
  • Continuous ETCO₂ monitoring
  • Respiration rate measurement
  • SpO₂ monitoring
  • Pulse rate measurement
  • Portable respiratory monitoring
  • Adjustable alarms
  • Rechargeable operation
  • Compact handheld design
  • Pressure and temperature compensation

Sidestream Capnography Device vs Pulse Oximeter

A pulse oximeter and capnography device measure different physiological parameters.
Measures exhaled CO₂Measures oxygen saturation
Provides ETCO₂Provides SpO₂
Monitors ventilationMonitors oxygenation
Provides respiratory informationProvides pulse/oxygenation information
The CA10S incorporates both capnography and pulse oximetry functions, allowing ETCO₂, AWRR, SpO₂, and pulse rate to be monitored from one device.
